Being only a junior, I can already see how being in a sorority has impacted me and will continue to impact me in the future. For one thing, I have better learned how to live and communicate with other people more effectively. Living in a room with two or three other girls, and a house of around 80 girls can be fun but also challenging at times. People live and do things on different schedules and in order to have the best experience communication and accommodation are key.
Another positive impact of being in a sorority I have realized through the academic aspect of college. There are girls from so many different majors and backgrounds, and all have different perspectives and ideas about classes and studying. Through communicating with even just a few girls in my sorority I have gotten such great tips about different approaches to majors, classes, teachers, studying techniques and more. On top of that, there is always someone to study with or ask a question to. Through this, my grades and knowledge have improved significantly. Another way being in a sorority has impacted me is through philanthropic efforts. It has helped teach me the importance of giving back to a good cause and the community. Whether it’s donating money or time, even a little goes a long way. Another way that joining a sorority has impacted me is by meeting a lot of new people, which is probably a big reason for many people who decide to go through recruitment. It has given me an opportunity to meet and get close to upperclassmen, underclassmen and people I probably wouldn’t have met otherwise, which is exciting.

The weekend of recruitment was nerve wrecking from start to end. However, the recruitment process is an unforgettable experience. Before recruitment began I remember my whole floor questioning the rights and wrongs on what to wear and say. I was so nervous about the whole process because I felt like I knew nothing about what was going to happen in the next four days. But, my Rho Gammas helped explain the whole recruitment process and gave tips to make recruitment easier. If it was not for the Rho Gammas the recruitment process would have been a bit more nerve wrecking it already was.
